It’s been a running joke in the family that my great grandmother could prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that she wasn’t crazy – she had a note from her psychiatrist that said so! Just like someone who needs a piece of paper to prove their sanity, you shouldn’t distinguish a goat’s quality by a piece of paper – but by whether or not it’s got the genetics to back it up. So until there’s a pedigree that measures a goat’s ability to stay healthy and raise kids, I’ll determine the quality by their performance – not their bloodlines.
Love your site and I totally agree with you! I wish more breeders would consider the goat itself and not the piece of paper it may or may not have come with. We raise a few goats and do have one that is registered. We paid much more for her, but the others produce just as well. Lesson learned! Feel free to check out my website where we write about our goats and other livestock: www.iheartcountryheaven.com .

Very true, Tina! That piece of paper doesn't make a bit of difference!
