Goats have a lot of purposes for us, weed control, meat, income, etc. One thing often overlooked is the training it gives our young horses. Last weekend, we took a doeling we tagged still bellering and stuck in front of a horse in training. It's an experience you can't replicate!!
The same is true when part of the herd suddenly decides to run under your horse. He can blow up or stand quiet. Either way it's great training.
Herding goats through the trees teaches reining, patience, "WHOA" and how to watch what he is doing. Horses learn fast when working around goats to pay attention. Yep, goats serve a multitude of functions and training horses is just one more good reason to keep some around.
